Greetings Ane, Kaixo, Though i cannot lp with accomodations, i suggest the first thing you do when you get to new york is get a bus and train map and learn the area. Cabs are bad in the city. I Would not trust them since you are not from around here. I and my wife will be in the Bilbao/ Erandio area in late August to Sept. for their festivals. Good luck in NY. All our best wishes.

Kaixo! I am Ane, a 25 year old girl from Bilbao (Bizkaia). I am going to NY as a visting researcher for three months, starting in September. I am looking for accommodation (renting or sharing apartment) for those dates. Would anyone know about anybody interested in renting or sharing? If so, please contact me at [email protected] On the other hand, I would be very interested in taking part in the activities organized around the Euskal Etxea, especially those related to the Basque language: Basque classes, mintzalaguna, etc. Eskerrik asko eta ondo ibili! See you in September. Ane

This year as for the last 14 years, i will be visitingas some over there say my "first home" Erandio and Lekeitio. I am making every effort to learn more about the basque then just that they have been sheepherders and sailor/fishermen and storyteller/dancers. Even though i do not reciewve much help from any basque within my area, i am learning alot of the basque peoples help with American pilots during WW2 and even Germanys pre WW2 attack on Guernica. What i learn from this years trip after i come back in August, ill be looking to pass on to anyone interested. Until then, Hasta Aproxima. Please dont be a stranger one and all. Im a member and im out there.

Kaixo lagunak! My name is Ainhoa and I'm from the Basque Country. I just found information about you and I decided to write something. On August I'm travelling to Chicago for 3 weeks and we agreed to visit New York too. I expect we are going to have enough time to visit you in the Euskal Etxea and see how our Basque-American friends try to preserve our culture in the USA. Nice to know about you. Besarkada bat. Kaixo New York Basque club-eko lagunak, My name is ibai and I just came from the basque country to spend a whole year in NYC as a visiting scholar. I just discovered you in the internet and I am happy there is an organized comunity of basque people here in New York. I am writing to you to say hello, and to ask for more information about your activities here in New York. I was wondering that you may have people intereseted in doing some kind of mintzalaguna to speak basque, or any other kind of activity I can take part on. Nice to know that we are alive in New York Best Ibai

Basque Company of Dance Theater at Insituto Cervantes in March 12, 2011! The Basque Company of Dance Theatre, based in Vitoria, Spain, is pleased to invite you to the Spanish-language premiere performance of their U.S. tour of Oscar Wilde's dramatic monologue "De Profundis", starring Basque television and film actor Iker Ortiz De Zarate, hosted by Instituto Cervantes. The Company selected "De Profundis" as its first ever North American performance because the text is still eerily relevant a century after it was first authored . "De Profundis" is the last prose ever written by Irish author Oscar Wilde to his absent lover Lord Alfred Douglas during Wilde's imprisonment following a Victorian "gross indecency" scandal that irrevocably altered his life and the lives of those whom he most loved. Wilde was convicted of the crime of "the love that dare not speak its name" and the sentence that followed was so arduous that it ultimately led to his untimely death. The Company would be honored by your presence at this very special Spanish-language performance. Date/Time: Saturday, March 12th, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. Location: Instituto Cervantes, 211 East 49th Street New York , NY 10017. http://nuevayork.cervantes.es Tickets: No advanced reservations. This performance is free. Open seating on a first-come, first-served basis. Theater seats 120 people. For inquiries about this performance, additional U.S. performances, and the Basque Company of Dance Theatre, contact United States Production Manager Deborah Berman-Shaw at [email protected] or (917) 620-8652.
